My name is Billie-Jo Johnston, I live in Queenstown, and I have been smoking for the past 25 years.
I started smoking at a young age because it was cool even though I never really enjoyed the habit. A pack of 25 would last me more than a week, but then I became addicted and eventually I was smoking a 50gram per week.
But I was aware of what I was doing financially and to my health and I knew I needed to stop.
I have tried twice in the past but I think this time is different because I am in the right headspace now.
I am working towards my quit date at the moment and in that time I have cut down from 15 a day to two and a half. I am using patches which I am finding helpful.
The motivation to set an example for my daughter is pushing me along as well as the health benefits, which I know include easier breathing, better sleep, and just a better lifestyle in general.
The Lakes District Stop Smoking Coach has been so supportive. She is non-judgemental and I feel secure with her. I feel like anyone else probably would have given up on me long ago but she has continued to support me, and I enjoy being accountable to her.
I am looking forward to my smoke free life and I know I will do it with Debbie’s ongoing support.
