Kōrari Māori Public Health
Kōrari is the Nga Kete Mātauranga Pounamu Māori Public Health team. The genesis of the name comes from the kōrari reed that is used as a binding agent for the traditional mōkihi raft. The analogy of this natural resource can be applied to health as it represents strength, adaptability and support.
The team is guided by tīkanga Māori values and Te Pae Mahutonga (a Māori health model). The overarching aim is to further strengthen whanau, hapu and Iwi health with the vision that “Māori in Murihiku are well”. This may be achieved through intiatives that:
He Poha Oranga: Whānau health (including mental health, nutrition, physical activity), workforce development, leadership and infrastructure.
Kia Piki Te Ora: Suicide Prevention
