We are so excited about having launched our whanau book - a collection of short stories and poems that Kai Tahu and whanau have created over a number of years. Snatches of memories, people, places and practices that have shaped and define us in the local Southern landscape - a celebration of relationship ties.
Publisher Tracey Wright-Tawha has been writing poetry for nearly forty years, and as a novice facilitated a number of whanau creative wananga over the last twenty years at Murihiku Marae, Takutai o Te Titi Marae and in various community settings. It was in checking a box one day and discovering a number of whanau poems that Tracey sought consent from whanau that a book be published.
Further creative wananga were facilitated giving a body of work spanning more than eighty years of memories.
The book is available at Toi Toi Maori Art & Gift Shop, 119 Dee Street, Invercargill, for $38.95
The third Hikoi Te Hauora Addiction Recovery Camp was held in the beautiful Blackmount Valley at Te Koawa Turoa O Takitimu.
At Nga Kete our staff work incredibly hard every day. Recently a large group of staff enjoyed a wellbeing day going fishing. We saved our pennies and the amazing crew of Awesome Charters gave us a day to remember. Te Ara a Kiwa had a bit of rock n roll in store for us but we enjoyed a great whanaungatanga and team building experience.
