Nga Kete Matauranga Pounamu Charitable Trust is organizing the annual event for the fifth time to welcome new and returning students onto campus.
Organiser Mana Wright, of Nga Kete, said the week will celebrate local community and student’s journey at SIT with a mixture of events including performances by Che Fu and Laughton Kora. Check the timetable attached for full details.
The official start to the academic year will begin with a powhiri on Monday 12 February at 11.00am at the Tay St Campus, followed by a market day and a rolling BBQ.
Over 25 stall holders will be on site for Market Day. All of which will be available for students to investigate and find any information that may help them during their studies at SIT.
Competitions, games and giveaways will be held Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 12pm-1.30pm. Some of which include a hot chilli eating competition, gumboot throwing and an epic weet-bix eat-off. All students are welcome to participate as there is something to suit everyone, Mr Wright says.
Players from professional Southland sports teams will be on campus throughout the week helping with activities and competing against students for a host of fantastic prizes.
The Red Frogs will be on site daily with pancakes and a chill out zone, and a Westpac Rolling BBQ will be held each day.
Come along and enjoy the fun and festivities at SIT’s O-Week, February 12 – 16.
