Tenei te mihi,
The Southern Stop Smoking Team has met the annual target to engage with 2071 people who smoke. From those who enrolled on our stop smoking programme we have achieved the national benchmark of 50% stop smoking validated quit outcome by supporting our clients journey!
This effort reflects an inspiring, creative, nimble team who have excelled as change agents and coaches. It also signals the strong interconnected relationships we enjoy with key stakeholders and the various advisory groups we work alongside - all committed to making a difference for individuals who smoke and those impacted.
I have thoroughly respected the Ministry of Health co-design approved to service roll-out nationwide.
There are many gains to be made as we hurtle towards our goal of a Smoke Free Aotearoa 2025.

THE MANAGER SAYS ...
It's been one year since the Southern Stop Smoking Service went live!
Since then our service has received 3115 referrals and of those a massive 653 are smoke free while others are still working on reaching their goals.
The Stop Smoking team have travelled to some amazing places and met some extraordinary people. It's been great to continually reflect on consumers and key stakeholders feedback which has benefited our robust service delivery.
We're now hosting more clinics rather than home visits, and we're reaching all corners of the region with clinics held in large centres as well as small rural towns such as Nightcaps and Glenorchy.
As well as running clinics our coaches meet with clients in all sorts of places from medical centres and farms, in agency settings to working out of their cars in fruit packing and shearing sheds. We're proud to offer on-site clinics in your workplaces!
We also attend events across the region to raise awareness of the service. Some of those events to date have included the World Shearing Championships and Polyfest!
One of our biggest highlights in the past year was setting up a support network at Aurora College in Invercargill to offer support to students in becoming smoke free. All five group members are now smoke free!
I am so proud of the Stop Smoking team, who are very dedicated in how they work, and I'm pleased to report that the entire staff will this month have completed their Stop Smoking Practitioners Certificate.
We believe we're making a real difference in the south and we look forward to seeing what the next year brings!
