What a great day had at Murihiku Marae 28 July facilitating training for PACT, following the Powhiri, a cuppa and whanaungatanga we looked at the Whare Tapa Wha model as an assessment tool, did an exercise in how to give & receive constructive feedback, learnt a new waiata, heard the stories of the Wharenui and had a yummy lunch. The facilitators were impressed with the whanau vibe of PACT, great people. Thanks to Taua Matika and Taua Peggy for joining in and to Aunty Ora who got us all together. ![]() Our Aukati Kaipaipa – Smoking Cessation Wonderwoman Teina Wilmshurst was in Wellington in July as she attended the launch of the National Stop Smoking Practitioner Qualification and the new National Training Service. Teina who is a facilitator of the programme here at Nga Kete for over 8 years was part of the Advisory group to help setup the new National Standards. This Qualification will further enable kaimahi who deliver Smoking Cessation services nationally. It recognises their skills in a professional environment and it also builds the confidence from Whanau who receive this service. “The qualification will show that kaimahi have achieved a National Standard of Practise and therefore their clients will get a standard of care that has been immeasurable in the past. This will give us the confidence to showcase to other Health professionals that – hey we do know what we are talking about.” Teina Wilmshurst Teina sees this new National Standard as a real benefit to smaller providers or new Kaimahi coming on board to get the traction they need in the community. Teina and her partner in crime Barbara Metzger have been doing this Mahi passionately and are both renowned locally and nationally for their efforts in helping Whanau quit smoking – True Blue Nga Kete Champions indeed!
